  Shoplifting – October 2, 2009 @ 1514 hours, Erika Herbstman, 23, Somerset was arrested for shoplifting at Bloomingdales.  A loss prevention officer located a pair of $86 sweat pants in her purse during a shoplifting investigation.  Herbstman was charged with shoplifting and released.

  Shoplifting – October 2, 2009 @ 2017 hours, Ronald L Arbuckle Jr, 41, Hillsborough was arrested for shoplifting a $47 jacket from Costco.  A loss prevention officer observed Arbuckle remove the sales tag from the jacket and put the jacket on with the intent to leave the store without paying.  He was charged with shoplifting and released.

  Disorderly Conduct – October 2, 2009 @ 2135 hours, a 15 year old girl from Lebanon was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at the Bridgewater Commons Mall.  The girl was arrested after she refused to leave an area outside McCormick and Schmick’s.  The police department has received complaints of juveniles yelling, cursing and making comments to mall patrons.

  Defiant Trespass – October 2, 2009 @ 2229 hours, a 17 year old boy from Somerville was arrested and charged with defiant trespass at Wendy’s.  The police were called to the restaurant by the manager for a disruptive group who were refusing to leave.  The boy, who was eventually arrested, refused to leave when told to do so by the responding officer. 

  Shoplifting – October 3, 2009 @ 1835 hours, two teenage girls from Somerset and New Brunswick were arrested for shoplifting at Macy’s.  A loss prevention officer observed the girls concealing merchandise in their purses.  The girls were arrested and charged with shoplifting.

  Simple Assault – October 4, 2009 @ 0106 hours, Ryan J. Kearney, 22, Saunderstown, RI was arrested for simple assault at the Hilton Garden Inn.  Kearney is accused of walking up to another guest and punching him repeatedly.  Kearney was charged with simple assault and released.

  Possession of CDS/Hindering Apprehension – October 4, 2009 @ 2029 hours,  Joyce Sferra, 50, Basking Ridge, NJ was arrested for hindering apprehension following an investigation at the Bridgewater Marriott.  Police were requested to respond to the hotel on the report of a distraught woman.  While speaking with Sferra it was determined she had provided the police officer with false information.  She was subsequently arrested and during a search of her backpack, a bag containing cocaine was found.  Sferra was charged with possession of CDS third degree and hindering apprehension fourth degree.  She was lodged in the Somerset County Jail with bail to be set at a later time.

  Burglary/Theft – October 9, 2009 @ 0657 hours, a business on East Main Street reported a burglary and theft from a storage yard.  The owner of the business told police the lock on the storage yard had been pried off and an unknown amount of scrap copper was stolen.

  Theft – October 9, 2009 @ 0701 hours, a resident of Weaver Court reported their 2007 Infiniti M35X was stolen from their driveway. 

  Burglary – October 9, 2009 @ 1824 hours, William L. Portacio, 20, Greenbrook was arrested for burglary to three vehicles that were parked on the upper level of the parking deck at the Bridgewater Commons Mall.  The police were notified by a witness who observed Portacio enter several vehicles on the parking deck.  Upon the arrival of police, Portacio fled on foot, but was apprehended by a mall security guard.  The investigation revealed that Portacio was in possession of items he had removed from the vehicles.  Portacio was charged with three counts of burglary and lodged in the Somerset County Jail with bail to be set at a later time. 

  Shoplifting – October 9, 2009 @ 1828 hours, Kaman Li, 26, Basking Ridge was arrested for shoplifting at Bloomingdale’s.  A loss prevention officer observed Li conceal $657 worth of clothing in an empty shopping bag she was carrying.  Li was charged with shoplifting and released.

  Theft – October 9, 2009 @ 0031 hours, Edin Roberto Sanabria-Portillo, 21, Bound Brook and Juan Cruz Cantarero, 29, Plainfield were arrested for theft of gasoline from a business on Route 28.  While on patrol an officer was checking a disabled vehicle on Route 22 when he observed a man walk from a wooded area carrying two five gallon cans of gas.  The officer also located a man inside the vehicle and two additional gas cans next to the vehicle.  Investigation determined the gas had been stolen from a business located on Route 28.  The two men were arrested and charged with theft.  They were released after being processed.

  DWI Arrest – October 11, 2009 @ 0033 hours, Steven Miceli, 35, Scotch Plains was arrested for DWI on Route 22 East.  Miceli was charged with DWI, speeding and failure to stop at a stop sign.  He was released to a friend.

  Burglary/Theft – October 12, 2009 @ 1738 hours, a residence on King Drive was burglarized.  The suspect entered the residence by forcing open the front door.  The only item stolen from the home was a gold watch.
