April 28, 2020 - Phone Scam

Bridgewater, NJ - The Bridgewater Police would like to remind everyone that phone scams, especially ones targeting the elderly, are still on-going. No member of a Law Enforcement Agency, member of the Court or Public Defender’s Office will call you to arrange a pick-up of bail money. The scammer typically will advise the caller that a member of the family was arrested or detained and that bail must be posted for their release. The caller will arrange for a “courier” to respond to your residence to collect payment. This is not how bail payment is received from a legitimate Law Enforcement Agency.

If you receive a call similar to this or need clarification on this scam, please contact our agency at 908-722-4111. Do not attempt to meet the caller/“courier,” provide a credit card number or personal information. Please pass this information onto those who may not have social media.
