Accreditation

On June 16th, 2022, the Bridgewater Township Police Department achieved “Police Agency Accreditation” through the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police.

 

This achievement culminates three years of preparation by Bridgewater Township Police Department personnel, specifically the designed Accreditation Manager Lieutenant Brian Blath. Accreditation requires compliance with the one hundred and twelve professional standards mandated by the Accreditation Board of Review.​

Accreditation Commission with the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police conducted an assessment of the agency’s officers and supervisors, inspection of the facility, and the review of numerous policies to verify that applicable standards have been successfully implemented.

Accreditation is a progressive and time-proven method of assisting law enforcement agencies assess and improve their overall performances. The foundation of Accreditation lies in the adoption of standards containing a clear statement of professional objectives. Accreditation status represents a significant professional achievement. Accreditation acknowledges the implementation of policies and procedures that are supportive of these objectives, conceptually sound and operationally effective.

Accreditation provides the agency with the training and standards to maintain it’s professional standard with policing and personnel.  Policy and procedure based on accreditation will not ensure mistake-free policing or a crime-free environment for citizens. Nor will it ensure an absence of litigation against law enforcement agencies and executives. What accreditation will do is provide for comprehensive and effective leadership through professionally based policy development is directly influenced by a law enforcement program that is thorough, complete, and obtainable, and based on standards that reflect professional best practices.  

 

The personnel at Bridgewater Police Department will continue to provide the training and standards to maintain their professional conduct while providing the service the community expects from us.
