January 17, 2023 - South Bound Brook man arrested for Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose

Bridgewater, NJ - Bridgewater Township Police Chief John Mitzak announced the arrest of Faris N. Salem, age 42, of Main Street, South Bound Brook, NJ.


Chief Mitzak stated on 1/16/23 at 1400 hours, Bridgewater Police Officers were dispatched to McDonalds on Promenade Boulevard, for a fight in progress. Prior to the officers’ arrival, multiple callers stated that a person was throwing rocks at people. Once officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Mr. Salem being restrained by bystanders. Officers were directed inside McDonalds to treat a victim, who was an employee of McDonalds.

Investigation revealed, Salem retrieved a rock from the exterior landscaping and walked up to the victim who was behind the counter and struck the victim several times in the head. The victim was transported to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick by the RWJ Rescue Squad. During the arrest of Mr. Salem, he resisted arrest and spit at two officers. The officers were treated at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerville and released.


Chief Mitzak would like to thank the bystanders that interceded in this event. Due to their quick actions to subdue Mr. Salem, they prevented any further injuries to innocent parties.


Chief Mitzak stated that defendant, Faris N. Salem was charged with: Unlawful Possession of a Weapon- 3rd degree, Aggravated Assault- 3rd degree, Throwing Bodily Fluids at Law Enforcement- 3rd degree, Simple Assault- Disorderly Persons and Resisting Arrest- Disorderly Persons. Salem was lodged in the Somerset County Jail.
