October 23, 2019 - Halloween Safety Tips

Bridgewater, NJ - Halloween Safety Tips from the Bridgewater Police Department:

Make sure your child’s costume is safe. Costumes should be fireproof, masks should allow for adequate peripheral vision, and should not restrict a child’s ability to breath.

If your child’s costume includes a prop such as a knife or sword, that the tips are smooth and flexible enough not to cause injury in the event of a fall. Also ensure that all props do not look realistic.

Young Children should always be accompanied by an adult.

Remind your children about everyday safety. For example, children should never enter a stranger’s house or car. Remind children to look both ways when crossing the street and to use cross walks when they are available.

Children’s costumes should include reflective material for good visibility.

Remember to carry a flashlight for increased visibility.

Parents should examine candy for any irregularities before children are allowed to eat their “treats.”

Parents explain to children the difference between “tricks” and vandalism. Throwing eggs and toilet paper may seem like harmless fun however it may cause damages and have unintended consequences.
